Frequently Asked Questions

Kayaking: You will get wet when paddling from splashes and your feet will get wet when getting in and out of the kayak. Comfortable lightweight clothes (no jeans) are best, a hat and plastic shoes/thongs or shoes that you don’t mind getting wet. Bring your swimming costume if you would like to enjoy a swim. Pack a light weight wet weather jacket in case of rain and a fleece if it is expected to be cool. Stand Up Paddle Boarding: you will get wet from splashes and you will get even wetter if you fall in! We recommend wearing swimming costumes or light weight shorts and a t-shirt. Shoes are not necessary.

Yes, it’s definitely best to book – to check on both availability and predicted weather conditions. On weekdays we operate on a booking only system, so bookings are essential. Advance bookings are also essential for tours and lessons

Bundeena is just under 1 hours drive from the centre of Sydney or about 1.5 hours by public transport.

The departure point at Bundeena is a coastal bay with a stunning stretch of sandy beach (great for swimming). Venture further up the river into the National Park and you’ll leave civilization behind. Here the river takes on a new look with isolated creeks, mangrove ecosystems, secluded picnic spots, overhanging cliffs and of course the majestic towering trees of the National Park.

Yes. The Bonnie Vale beach front (where Bundeena Kayaks is based) is a sheltered sandy beach. The other beaches (Hordens, Gunyah and Jibbon) are also great for a dip. The rocky shorelines are also abounds in fish and invertebrate life – so be sure to pack your snorkelling gear!

Yes! But remember you do need to have a fishing licence.

There is 11 sq km of waterway to explore! Plenty to keep you busy for the full day if you wish! You must not however take kayaks into ocean waters

No! Just say that you are going to Bundeena at the entry booth and you will not need to pay a park entry fee. Please note Bundeena Kayaks is located in Bonnie Vale (which is part of the National Park), if you intend to park in this area you will need to purchase a park permit,. It is best to park in the streets of Bundeena (near turn off to Bonnie Vale) and walk to our location

Usually it’s best to get an early start, as the wind has a tendency to pick up in the afternoon. Sometimes however it may be to your advantage to start later in the day depending on the tide times. Ask us for more details when you book.
No paddling experience is required for any of our activities – begginners are welcome! All participants must be able to swim and be in reasonably fit condition.
Yes! All activities go ahead in the rain, but may be cancelled if wind strength is predicted to be very strong.

Activities may be cancelled if the weather is unfavourable or if there are insufficient participants. If such situations we do not offer refunds but will allow 1 year for you to rebook the activity

No, however we do ask that all children are immediately accompanied by an adult
Bundeena is just under 1 hours drive from the centre of Sydney and can also be reached by catching a train to Cronulla and then the Cronulla Bundeena ferry service (which takes about 20 mintutes and costs $6.10 p.p.)
Yes! All of our touring kayaks have storage options – either hatches or deck space, but it’s a good idea to bring along a plastic glad bag or dry bag to put your gear in.
Do I need to be able to swim?
Yes! And it is a condition of hire that you wear the vest at all times whilst on the water.
Enjoy some excellent coastal and bush walking trails, laze about or swim at one of the 4 beautiful beaches (all on Bundeena’s doorstep), have a picnic, go fishing, enjoy the cafe scene, Bowling Club or Community Services Club
Yes. Bundeena has many places to stay including a camping ground in the Royal National Park, beach front units, cottages and a 5-star exclusive b&b. Check out Air BnB for more details
Yes. Bonnie Vale has many free electric barbeques, picnic tables and toilet facilities
We accept cash, credit card* (Mastercard and VISA) and Electronic Funds Transfers
You can either park you car in the Bonnie Vale picnic grounds car park (right next to Bundeena Kayaks) or outside the entry gate to Bonnie Vale and walk the short distance (about 150 metres) to our base. If you choose to park inside the picnic area you will need to pay the National Parks entry fee (approx. $11), if you park outside the gates there is no need to purchase a park entry ticket.
