Kayak Hire & Stand-Up Paddle Board Hire

We have a fleet of single and double sit on top style kayaks and stand up paddle boards available for hire. Self guided hire gives you the opportunity to explore this scenic area at your own pace. We are based on the waterfront in the Bonnie Vale picnic grounds with direct access to the Port Hacking River. We also run daily guided kayak tours which we highly recommend if you are a total beginner or if you don’t feel confident out on the water. Click here for more information about our tours

To avoid disappointment, we recommend making a booking during peak periods, however it’s often fine to show up without a booking as we do keep a number of kayaks and paddle boards aside for walk ups. Note that during peak periods we only take a limited number of pre-bookings (so plan and book early) and we leave some availability for walks ups. We have needed to do this because we’ve been having some problems with pre-booked people showing up very late and kayaks/paddle boards sitting un-used for long periods.

IMPORTANT: Before making the trip to visit us, be sure to head to our website opening updates and check that we will be open. Although we are open most of the year 7 days, we do sometimes need to close for the day if weather prediction is unfavourable or for other unexpected reasons. CLICK HERE to check if we will be open. Payments for hire are not required until the day.

About the Kayaks and Stand Up Paddle Boards

Kayaks: We have a fleet of stable sit on top style single and double kayaks. Sit on top kayaks are the most preferred and safest type of kayak for this area. Single kayaks can carry weights up to 130kg. Our double kayaks are suitable for 2 people and also have an extra centre seat for a small child and a carrying capacity of 200kg. Backrests can be fitted to both the double and single kayaks for extra comfort if preferred. The single kayaks have an open deck well at the rear for storage and the double kayaks have both deck space as well as an enclosed storage hatch.

Stand Up Paddle Boards (SUP): Our SUP boards are 11’4” ,super stable and in a choice of the popular soft deck style. They travel along at a great pace in the water and are suitable for beginners through to experienced paddlers.

Pre-Requisites for Kayak/Paddle Board Hire and Tours

No paddling experience is required – beginners are welcome! All participants must be able to swim and be in reasonably fit condition. We also love having kids aboard and welcome children from 5 years and older providing they are accompanied by an adult. If you are a non-swimmer or you or your group don’t feel too confident out on the water, we suggest booking in for our Beginner’s Beach Kayak Tour instead. Click Here for more information

Best Clothing to Wear Kayaking / Paddle Boarding

Kayaking: You will get wet when paddling from splashes and your feet will get wet when getting in and out of the kayak. Comfortable lightweight clothes (no jeans) are best, a hat and plastic shoes/thongs or shoes that you don’t mind getting wet. Bring your swimming costume if you would like to enjoy a swim. Pack a light weight wet weather jacket in case of rain and a fleece if it is expected to be cool.

Stand Up Paddle Boarding: You will get wet from splashes and you will get even wetter if you fall in! We recommend wearing swimming costumes or light weight shorts and a t-shirt. Shoes are not necessary.

Do I Need to Book?

To avoid disappointment, we recommend making a booking during peak periods, however it’s often fine to show up without a booking as we do keep a number of kayaks and paddle boards aside for walk ups. Note that during peak periods we only take a limited number of pre-bookings and we leave some availability for walks ups. We have needed to do this because we’ve been having some problems with pre-booked people showing up very late and kayaks/paddle boards sitting un-used for long periods.

Please plan to show up 15 minutes before your booking. This allows you to plenty of time to sign on, get your gear organised and get out on the water prior to your booking time. If you are late, we may send out your kayaks/paddle boards to other waiting customers or your paddling time may need to get cut short. Note – we always do our best to make sure pre-booked kayaks and paddle boards are ready and waiting for your arrival, but sometimes you may have a short wait. Please be patient and know we are doing our best to help you.
