Ever wondered why the water keeps sneaking up the beach, then disappearing again just when you’re ready for a swim? That’s the moon doing its magic — pulling the ocean in and out like it’s playing with a giant yo-yo.

Here in Bundeena, we get two high tides and two low tides every day, roughly six hours apart. But they’re not always the same height — thanks to the moon’s mood swings (and the sun chiming in), some tides reach higher than others.
💡 So, how do you use all this watery science to your advantage?
If you’re paddling from Bundeena Kayaks to Cabbage Tree Basin, the trick is to go right on high tide. That way, you’ll float upstream with the incoming tide and then glide home as it gently flows back out. Nature’s version of an e-bike, really — no extra pedalling required!
The paddle takes about 2 hours return at a chilled, holiday pace. You’ll drift past mangroves, maybe spot a stingray or two, and feel rather smug about letting the moon do all the work.

Come on down, rent a kayak, and let the tides do the heavy lifting. Because why paddle against the flow when you can go with it?
